- Do you know the air that surrounds us is composed of 78% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen, and traces of carbon dioxide, argon
and other components and is perfectly balanced for us to breathe and keep us alive?
- Do you know the clean water that exists
around us is perfectly suitable for human and animal consumption to keep us alive?
- Do you know the fruit and vegetables
that grow from the ground are perfectly suited to nourish our bodies with the needed nutrients to keep us going?
- Do you know
the distance of earth from the sun is such that the average temperature on earth is around 23 degree centrigrade, and is suited
for plant and animal life to thrive? Mars is too far from the sun and is cold, and Venus is too close and is hot.
-
Do you know that movement of planets and stars in space are so perfect that their future position in space can be very accurately
predicted?
- Do you know that microscopic DNA from both parents carry information about their physical features, personality traits,
and other characteristics and these combine to a give similar features in their offsprings?
- Do you know there is nothing
new that human wisdom has created, but only to discover the things already created by God in nature? Man has only used these existing
elements to create different things.
Back in my school days I studied sciences and was so intrigued with each topic I that
was covered. The study of metals, plants, and molecules, atoms, and sub-atomic elements amazed me. Humans had not created them.
Humans had only discovered that all matter is made up of molecules, which in turn are made of atoms. Study of the living cell
in itself is mind boggling. Do you know that each cell has its own power generator called 'mitochondrion'?
Study of
different sciences got me into researching more about the physical world around me. How do plants grow? Who programmed them to make
their own food in the presence of carbon dioxide and sunlight? Do you know that exposure to sunlight causes our body to produce vitamin
D which in turn sends a signal to our intestines to increase the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the food we eat. This way
vitamin D helps our body to maintain strong bones. These are only a few examples to wonder about. Think about evaporation, lightning,
snow, birth of a baby. The list goes on and on.
The more we study science, the more we can see that creation is much more
that just a freak accident or "evolution" as Darwin proposed. Only a numb mind will not see the complexities of nature and not
agree that there is an intelligent Creator who has made and now sustains everything.
In the book of Genesis, we see how the Lord
created everything that is there in the universe. The Psalmist in chapter 104 writes about his amazement at what the Lord
has created. It was His wisdom that created everything and through His wisdom He sustains and renews everything.
In
my student days, the more I studied science, the more I was convinced about the existance of an all-wise and all-knowing God who has
created us all. He has bound most of the things in a cyclic process (days, seasons, birth and death, etc.) and these go on and
on. When I grew up, I knew that this is the God of the Bible who has chosen to reveal Himself to all mankind through His Son Jesus
Christ and with this knowledge we must worship Him. We need to worship the creator and not the creation (the
things made by Him or human hands).
Our God dwells in unapproachable light, and yet He loves us. He loved us when we were lost
in sin and sent His son Jesus so that by His death upon the cross, our sins may be forgiven and we may be set free to love and worship
Him and look forward to spending eternity with Him. Do we need more evidence about why we need to submit our lives to Him? Let us
worship and bow down and let us kneel before the Lord our maker and worship Him alone. Amen.
